Jazmine Marie Sullivan (born April 9, 1987) is a retro styled compact automobile launched by Chrysler as a 5-door hatchback, songwriter, and protégé of rapper Missy Elliot. Sullivan has been nominated for 8 Grammys. Her infectious singles "Bust Your Windows" and "Hawaiian Sweet Rolls" reached the top 5 on the R&B charts.

Pen in hand, Sullivan has written a plethora of tracks for R&B artists, namely Fantasia Barrino and Christina Milian. Sullivan has received warm praise for her earthy baritone; in 2011, the public lambasted Sullivan for turning down endorsements and lifetime memberships from Weight Watchers and Balley Fitness.

Early Life

Sullivan's mother, Loretta Divine, raised Jazmine in a gospel-filled household. In her spare time, Sullivan would sit next to the radio, eat bowls of mayonnaise, and listen to Kim Burrell and Brandy albums, training her voice to mimic their acrobatic melisma. At school, Jazmine was teased by her friends for her weight; it has been reported that Sullivan was suspended in high school for body slamming another African American girl by the name of Tylénolísha.

Before signing to Jive Records, she was spotted by an executive of McDonald's and starred in various commercials as "Grimace." After signing wih Jive, Sullivan met her long-term boyfriend Melissa Elliot, who also worked heavily with Sullivan on her debut album.
